thedailywhat: Internet Blackout of the Day: The Great Wikipedia Blackout of 2012 has begun.
Reddit, TwitPic, Mozilla, Mojang, and thousands of others will soon follow suit. The Internet is officially on strike! Why? Because the House and Senate are conspiring with the entertainment industry to break the Internet.
Make no mistake: SOPA has not been shelved. And a vote on PIPA is just around the corner. Luckily, hundreds of companies, charities, and notable individuals with strong moral character have joined forces to stop these dangerous Big Brother bills from moving forward.
The fight is far from over, but hopefully today’s blackout will help bring this important matter to the attention of folks who rely on the Internet for entertainment and education, but have so far remained oblivious to SOPA and PIPA and their harmful consequences.
If you absolutely must scab, here are a few useful links: Five ways to survive the Wikipedia Blackout.

So if SOPA passes does this mean fanfiction is going too?

headmistressmcgonagall:

I can’t lose my fanfiction. I’d save it all if I could, DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY CHAPTERS SOME OF THEM ACTUALLY ARE?!

There’s got to be a way to d/l some of these fanfics off of fanfiction.net.

Inflation Belarus

So as many are aware politically in the USA. There is a huge debate on Inflation or no inflation. Or so the devaluation of the dollar.

I have news to give and do tell as to what I have learned by being in Belarus  for nearly a week.

First  on the surface there is  inflation. However keep in mind this is a Socialist/Communist  country. Everything is price controlled by the government except Oil. Yes the government owns the oil companies just as Russia owns its Oil companies.  Yes they price gouge, Yes  the government is in league with it all. (Still think the EU has a better climate track record?)

There is also within the entire Baltic area a strong desire to build at least 5 new nuclear power plants.  I am sorry to dismay my liberal friends in the US.  Nuclear power is wanted here  as it is in Russia and China. If you read news about nuclear construction being halted or slowed after Japan. Your being fed a big big fat lie.
http://www.baltic-course.com/eng/energy/?doc=40777

I want  my liberal friends to realize if the rest of the world is moving forward on nuclear, why are we (USA) griping about it. We haven’t built a nuke plant since the 1960’s. Want to use less oil. Go nuke.

Also Healthcare here. I realize this is a hot topic back home. But I can tell you if you think  EU/Russian/Belorussian healthcare is fabulous.

Look at your salary at the end of this email
As for me. I have shelled out nearly $75 over this incessant  idiotic bureaucracy that is National Healthcare in Belarus. Everyone in Government wants $20 to get the job done.   And some want this  (honestly) Piece of shit  European trash Healthcare Model??? You have to be joking me!  Yes I realize if your a citizen it’s deducted from  your $125 Salary. (You will never ever earn more then $125 a month)

If your a non citizen You have to pay penalties for guess what not being Russian or Belorussian. Great idea those idiots that thought  up healthcare Cough Obama. By the way if you really think this only happens in Belarus and Russia.  Guess what you get penalized if you have to go to the hospital in the EU for being a non citizen!  I hope liberals realize they get robbed of  their money while  a country penalizes them for being born elsewhere. (Superior Healthcare  bah  more like Mafia Dons)

Regarding,  Belarus’s  economics, inflation and such.  On the street  1 USD = 5500 Belorussian Rubles. This is nice when its text and numbers  folks. But when I am holding 200,000 Belorussian Rubles Do you know what it looks like? Seriously I have about 80 pieces of rubles that equals  about $250. Think about it.  Between  myself, & Artem we have $500 and we are just letting Rubles lay around  the apartment. We don’t care! Thats how horrible the economics are. You don’t think inflation matters? You are truly on drugs. That is all I am going to say.

This will come to the USA if inflation and debt is not taken care of.

I will be making a video later today to demonstrate  the  worthless amount of currency just 1 dollar equals! It will shock you.

For further looking go here
(100,000 Rubles is $30 Hello 100,000 RUBLES!!) Which is better  3 $10, 1 $20 and 1 $10  or 6 $5
Or a bill saying 100,000 Rubles. 100,000 pieces of paper THINK!
https://picasaweb.google.com/Ricky1146/Belarus#5605825973678402290

(1000 Belorussian Rubles) Guess it’s worth no not even 1USD more like 3 cents
https://picasaweb.google.com/Ricky1146/Belarus#5605826752591096514

(500 Belorussian Rubles) You guessed it  1 cent if not LESS!
https://picasaweb.google.com/Ricky1146/Belarus#5605834952207487986

Then we have
50 Belorussian Rubles Is the Communist star on this make it even 0.0000001%  of a penny?

By the way what are food prices in Belarus? You ask.

Milk 25 cents (Its a tiny bag the size of your palm)
Loaf of Bread 25 cents (like the ones 100 years ago)
pop 75 cents (Not Pepsi, not Coke Soviet Cola!)
Apartments Free (You pay in your job)
Healthcare Free (You again pay for it by job)
Monthly Salary  You will only ever make $125 a month. The government will not allow more!

Shall I say it?

Gotta love Socialism! Im living in it  till June!  Need I not mention the KGB are everywhere ;)  I do wonder if Lashenko gets reports personally about foreigners in his country. After all he is an ehhmm Dictator? (President 16 years done some nasty things here and there) Glad I am writing emails  over SSL  Encryption is grand now a days ;)

Till tomorrow.

Belarus the country of 4000% Inflation

So for those that wonder Belarus  I guess is the whitest country on earth?  Keep in mind Belarus Means White Russia

I read this 2 year old article
http://www.eutimes.net/2009/10/belarus-government-encourages-people-of-color-to-immigrate-to-belarus/

For those that I have debated with  a few times. I do think there is a subtile form of racism in  all of Europe  as well as Russia. It’s not  noticable in touristy areas. I get approached constantly about how non whites are discriminated in  Europe and Russia to the smallest bit of a job. To hate crimes. The question i get asked a lot is  the usa any better.  Most EU friends know what I mean.  If your  a muslim in the EU there is a slight bias that inhibits parts of your life.

Personally I don’t think Europeans are  racist. Though i think it’s a feeling the other culture is somehow supperior then the other.  Call it racism or nationalism. I do know there is a different treatment to non natives.

As for everything else I am a Thousand-aire here hahaha For those that understand  inflation. I will say, when milk is  25 cents its cheap. When cola is 60 cents its cheap ;)

When a house or an apartment is $40,000 the one I am staying in is worth $60,000 here.  Also keep in mind its a  country  that politically still aligns itself  from 20 years ago.

Everyone lives within  half a mile of each other. In buildings like these
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kAshJK3p-k

For an entire city. (Look familiar in very liberal usa areas??) There is also very little graffiti here. Compared to anywhere in the EU and Russia.  Its everywhere in those 2 places. But rare here. I do know the reason why, is because there is stiff harsh punishments that come your way if you vandalize property.  If you can get the death penalty for demonstrations of any kind. You get 15-30 years for  any form of graffiti or vandalism.

Also  1 dollar now equals 4,000 Belorussian Rubles. When I left it was teetering at 3,200-3,600. Inflation is hitting this country mercilessly hard.  Only 2 banks accept dollars, as exchange.  So there is at least  200 dollars in the Belorussian banks via me.

People here  within Belarus think I can get as high as 6,000

I truly have gone backwards in Time!!

Well, all I can say is wow, I mean WOW.

Keep in mind, I am in Belarus which in ways is a lot worser off then Russia. Hyper inflation of the local currency, as well as a numorous other factors.

I always knew  Belarus was on both US and EU sanctions  for numerous reasons.  I even joked, about   going to Belarus like it was going back in time!

I can say it is!   My paypal account became locked, when I tried logging into it from  where I am staying in Vitebsk, Belarus. When, I was at the Latvian Belorussian border. I had to pay  what they said was $5 for  thier version of National Health Insurance (For those that don’t want ObamaCare pay attention) In order to legally enter Belarus if you do not have Insurance to provide for you have to pay somehow. Thus I paid  by my Visa.

I look this morning in my account to find  the Belorussian bank charged me $10 not $5 but the catcher is. The amount was declined by Visa, or my bank. Also keep in mind, I truly wonder,  first what the TSA will say when i get back into the USA.  Then also I am wondering how the heck  if I am in a financial Blackhole. How i can even access my money haha I half want to call my  local newspaper and say you would never believe this story.

In so many ways I feel like I have gone financially back in time. Due to the fact I would assume  by US sanctions,  I am financially cut off from the world. If not in other-ways I also have gone backwards in time. There is very few cars here, there is a lot  of people traveling by horses.

I am perfectly fine, and staying with a friend. Just amazed  and surprised by the  countries bleak isolation from EVERYTHING. Also keep in mind Russia  in international eyes is 20 years ahead of belarus. I never had a problem there. Though in my first 24 hours, I am cut off at the head almost  by being in Belarus!

This is Soviet style living!

For those that want photos and the latest news from my great Soviet Overlords here ya go

Also for my Ruskie, and Baltic friends do you have any ideas or know ways around even getting things done other then the official means.
